Istiaque Ahmed is a PhD Candidate in the Section Urban Design of the Department of Urbanism at TU Delft.
His research focuses on Informal Urbanisation, Socio-Spatial Justice, Risks in the Built Environment, and Participatory Methods of Design. Istiaque is particularly interested in how peoples’ perception, use, and the alternate meaning of urban spaces influence their everyday city-making practices.
He holds a Bachelor of Architecture (B.Arch) degree from Khulna University in Bangladesh (2012) and a MSc (with Merit) in Environment and Sustainable Development from The Bartlett, University College London (2016).
Prior to starting his PhD at TU Delft, Istiaque served as a faculty member in several public and private universities in Bangladesh, namely DUET, CUET, and SUB. Istiaque also worked with eminent Dhaka based architect Saif Ul Haque at his architectural practice Saif Ul Haque Sthapati (SHS).
Istiaque’s work has been published in several international journals and conferences. His Bachelor’s terminal project was exhibited at the Commonwealth Association of Architects (CAA) Conference 2013 in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Istiaque was also a member of the Study and Design team for architect Saif Ul Haque’s ‘Arcadia Education Project,’ which received the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2019.
